More information

Learn to play the piano

Experienced tuition individually tailored to you. Learn at your own pace with fundamental skills carefully covered. Learn to play what you want (within reason!) either solely for pleasure and/or the full range of ABRSM exams are available. Suitable for complete beginners or more advanced players.

Discover how it all works from the inside (in theory)

Learn about the building blocks of how music is written and read, from beginners’ to advanced level. This is invaluable at whatever level you can manage, for playing, composing and listening.

Follow a particular musical route that really interests you

Whatever your musical background or enthusiasm, guidance in helping you to explore your interest will be either directly available or other sources sought for you, if needed or if they are truly unusual!

Learn to compose

A variety of guidance is available, whether you are curious about composing and have no experience, or if you want help with writing pieces for a variety of forces, or for writing songs, or arranging, or if you need advice and tutoring for GCSE and ‘A’ Level or undergraduate composition courses, or if you want to try new things that are unusual and experimental!

Tutoring on how to use music notation software (Sibelius) is available but it will also be possible to provide you with printed scores and synthesized CD recordings of your music (within reason) (using computer software) even if you do not have access to computer equipment of your own.

Learn about music through listening and history

An introduction to music from the medieval period to the present day, through informal listening, demonstration and discussion.

Learn to use music notation software (Sibelius)

This is only recommended if you have a computer and either have or are able to purchase the software (which is expensive), or if you have regular access to somewhere that provides it such as a school or college.

Music for visual artists (group talks or individual consultancy)

The aim is to provide a space for visual artists wishing to explore new areas. This will suit either groups for talks, or individuals wishing to explore links between art and music which may offer new insights into their own practice.

GCSE/’A’ Level/undergraduate coaching offered

Coaching and advice is available for students taking GCSE or ‘A’ Level music or music at undergraduate level.
